Hello everyone. This is the last call to buy tickets for my show, The Annotated Audiobook. Treat yo’self here. £6. Not a trap.
I’m looking forward to being on stage again. Here’s a picture of the very spot:
It’s going to be lovely. As ever, my only fear is that an angry punter expecting traditional standup will throw a chair at me, which happened to my pal Gabe Featherstone recently. This seems unlikely though. Empty chairs at a Wringham show are hard to come by.
(Yeah right!)
If you happen to live in Glasgow or nearby, grab yourself a ticket and we’ll spend a pleasant non-chair-throwing Wednesday evening together. Midweek school nights are the best nights to be out late. Be the stuff of legends.
Here’s an excerpt about the show from a meandering interview I just gave to alternative comedy’s night watchman, John Fleming:
I’ve always wanted a theatrical premise to go with the reading. Whenever you go and see someone doing a reading, it’s fine if you know what you’ve signed up for. But, in a comedy environment, you want something a bit extra. You want a premise.
So my premise is it’s an audiobook recording for which I want a live audience; so the audience are coming to play a part in that. A little bit of participation from the audience and, if nothing else, I’ll capture their noises.
That’s the premise of The Annotated Audiobook and I’ll be riffing around the material. It won’t just be me reading it verbatim from the page, I’m going to be telling the story behind the story, commentating on what happens in the room and things like that.
At the end of the show, you can buy a book if you want to and/or stick around for beer in the main bar.
Today is Monday and my only plans between now and showtime are to build the lectern thing I’ll be using on the night, test my mics, and choose some mood-setting pre-set music to play while the audience files in. The rest of the week’s my own.
Thanks to everyone who plans to come along.
If you can’t make it but would like a taster of the material, you can pick up Stern Plastic Owl from comedy media kitchenette Go Faster Stripe.
As people keep saying to me for some reason: break everyone’s legs,

PS: If you’re on this list because you’re into New Escapologist and aren’t interested in my other stuff, this other list is the right door. x
PPS: I’m no longer on social media, so if you’d like to tell people about my show please don’t hesitate to do so. Better yet, if you have bookish comedy-loving friends in Glasgow, please forward this email to them.
