Remember that award I mentioned last time? My novel was shortlisted for a Saltire Prize. Well, we only bloody won it. Best Book Cover, 2023.
It’s all down to Thomas MacGregor for his cover art, immortalising my Mister Bob character in oils. Samara’s design work is also impeccable.
“And the winner is…” said Brian Cairns from the Glasgow School of Art.
We were at the ceremony for the free booze but something certain and terrible rose up in me in that moment: oh crap, he’s going to say we’ve won it.
“Rub-A-Dub-Dub,” he said.
I can’t believe such a dignified man had to say those words.
So I had to go up in front of all the big publishers in Scotland and mumble something about it all. I looked like a real goofball up there, I can tell you.
Mac’s name is on the prize but I can still use the phrase “Robert Wringham, author of the award-winning Rub-A-Dub-Dub.” And I will. I’m going to be a nightmare.
Iceman Film and Kickstarter
But what I really want to tell you about today is Melt It! The Film of the Iceman.
Yes, my quirky little book about the Iceman is being made into a proper documentary film. On a miniscule budget, we’re making a star-studded feature-length film about this wonderful man.
You can read more about the project here and (if you please) chip in to the Kickstarter fund to help us finish the film.
How much permanence and success can we assure for this man whose entire act was about impermanence and failure? Back the film and be among the first to find out.
We don’t need a lot of money to do it but if we can make our modest expenses back we’ll be in a strong position to arrange distribution and streaming, so the world might actually see it. So please treat yourself (or a comedy- and art-loving friend) to a film poster or a signed copy of the book or even a credit on the film.
Seriously, this film is going to be a beautiful piece of art. Here’s where to go.
Mighty Organ
As if the Iceman film weren’t enough excitement, the latest New Escapologist will arrive at Escape Towers this afternoon, ready to ship. Get your copy here if you have not already ordered it.
The new issue features interviews with Analog Sea’s Jonathan Simons and BDSM model Ariel Anderssen, the review of a walk from his Chicago artistic practice to his hometown of Waukegan by Landis Blair, and columns from Tom Hodgkinson, McKinley Valentine, Jacob Lund Fisker and all your other favourites. It will also feature a tonne of Robert Wringham as you might imagine.
That’s Samara on the cover by the way. I married a cover girl! Always knew I would.
I’ll Only Go if You Throw Glass
And finally, I have a live show next year. I’m really looking forward to it. Come along and let’s all get together after the show. The tickets are very cheap.
Much love and thank you for your attention,
Robert Wringham
